Wilbert (Bill) F. Van Goethem

April 12, 1945 — April 20, 2018

Wilbert (Bill) Van Goethem , 73, Luxemburg, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2018 with his family by his side after a long 8-year battle with liver disease. Bill was born on April 12, 1945 to the late Archie and Myrtle (VanPay) Van Goethem. He recently celebrated 50 years of marriage with Linda (Blahnik), they were married on March 9, 1968 at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Sugarbush. Bill ran his own dairy farm with Linda at his side for 25 years. He also worked for many trucking and excavating companies, including, H.T. Watermolen, Joski Construction, Ken Katers Construction, Ed Gersek and Wally Tielens. He enjoyed horse auctions, his Belgian horses and cattle, and time with family. He was the best story teller along with giving many people nicknames.

Bill is survived by his wife Linda; his children, Brenda, John & Holly Baierl, Jeff, Crystal Van Goethem and Jove Bega, Randy, Angie, and Nathan Van Goethem, brother Ray (Jeanette) Van Goethem; sisters Carol LeLou, Elaine Leiterman, Betty (Howard) Wegner, Diane (Vince) Delain; sisters-in-law Pat Van Goethem, Carol Van Goethem (Dale); and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Archie (Myrtle) Van Goethem, father and mother-in-law Charlie (Gertie) Blahnik; son-in-law Pat Taicher; brothers, Arnie (Joyce) Van Goethem, Harold (Karen) Van Goethem, Bob Van Goethem, and Darold (Jeff) Van Goethem; brothers-in-law, Marlin Zimmer, Don Leiterman, and Marcien LeLou.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 23, 2018 from 3:30-8:00 pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Sugarbush. A prayer service will be held at 7 PM. Visitation will continue at church on Tuesday morning from 9-10:30 am. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am Tuesday with Fr. Bill O’Brien officiating. Burial will take place at the Irish Eaton Cemetery. Wiesner & Massart Funeral Homes – Casco is assisting the family. Online condolence messages may be shared on the tribute wall.

The family wishes to thank Bellin Ultrasound, Brittany, Lisa, Linda, Jessica and Josh; Dr. Picotte, Dr. Bessur and Brandi, Dr. Meves and Nancy, Dr. Mortara. Also, many thanks to Bill’s buddies Jim and Mike Kehoe, Jimmy Cravillion, Kenny Pieschek, Pete Lemens, and Dan Skaletski for all of their visits and care. A special thank you to Lonnie Van Goethem, Shorty Leiterman, Chuck and Mel for all of their help.

All of the kids want to say, “Thanks Mom for taking such great care of Dad and all of the love you showed to him.”
