Violet McCosky , 101, Algoma, passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2021. Born on May 5, 1920, to the late Viola (Sell) and William Kirchman. Violet graduated from Algoma High School in the class of 1937. She later met and married her husband, John McCosky on January 25, 1941, in Dubuque, Iowa. He preceded her in death on July 15, 1996. She worked for many years in the food service department of the Algoma School District.
She is survived by daughter-in-law, Sharon (McCosky) (Wayne) Raether of Algoma, sons Brian (Nan) McCosky of Texas, Bill (Jane) McCosky of Green Bay; grandchildren, Daniel (Tara), Doug (Kim), Chrissy (Patrick) O’Connell, Allan, and Molly (friend Brad); great-grandchildren, Monica, Maddie, Isabella, Margaret, Bailey; great-great-grandchildren, McCoy and Doc.
Violet was preceded in death by her husband, John McCosky; son Bruce and two infant children, her parents, Viola and William; her stepfather Joe Penza; siblings, Eleanor (Joe) Bohman, Florence (Del) Weber, Lloyd “Bud” (Mary) Kirchman and Shirley Kirchman; father- and mother-in-law Fred and Elizabeth McCosky, brother- and sister-in-law Fred McCosky Jr and Elizabeth McCosky.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church - Algoma from 9-11 am; Funeral service to take place at 11:00 am with Pastor John Moll and Pastor Joel McKenney officiating. Burial to follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. Wiesner & Massart Funeral Home – Algoma assisted the family. Online condolence message may be shared at www.wiesnermassart.com.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Autumn’s Journey Assisted Living for the excellent care that they provided for Violet while she was there. She was treated like family and frequently mentioned how she enjoyed the daily interaction with the staff.
