Patrick W. Murphy

June 20, 1941 — January 18, 2018

Patrick W. Murphy, age 76 of Kewaunee died on Thursday, January 18, 2018 surrounded by his family at the Algoma Long Term Care Unit. He was born in Oconto on June 20, 1941to the late William and Helen (Heroux) Murphy. He and his family moved to Kewaunee in 1946 where he attended Holy Rosary Grade School and graduated from Kewaunee High School in 1959 where he lettered for three years playing basketball and baseball .

After school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving for four years aboard the U.S.S. Topeka CLG8. After service, he worked at the Kewaunee Nuclear Plant during the construction. Later working for Leyse Aluminum/Volrath Corporation until retiring.

Pat’s love for sports was unmatched. He was a huge Brewers fan, having attended more games than one could keep track of. Many good times were had after the games at Ray Jackson’s with his buddy George Bamberger and the rest of the "Kewaunee Brew Crew". The guys from Kewaunee even managed to gain the attention of "Sports Illustrated" in the April 1979 issue. He was also a huge Packer’s and Badger’s fan. Pat’s social skills and love for people were second to none, he made many friends throughout his lifetime.

Survivors include one daughter: Sheryl Murphy, Luxemburg; one son and daughter-in-law: Mark and Mary (Burmeister) Murphy, Luxemburg; two grandchildren: Michael Leiterman, DePere; Shane (Miranda) Murphy, Kewaunee; two great grandchildren: Embree and Aleah Murphy; one brother: Bob (LuAnn) Murphy, Kewaunee; one sister: Mary Kay (Tim) Zettel, Sturgeon Bay; nieces and nephews: Adam (Kristi) Murphy; Matt (Ivy) Murphy; Andy (Sara) Murphy; Lisa (Mark) Yarbro; Scott (Paula) Zettel; Amy (David) Barnes and one aunt: Dorothy Merline and numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins. Two special lifelong friends: Bubba and Hokey.

Friends may call after 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 24 at Buchanan Funeral Home, Kewaunee until the time of services. A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue after the service.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Unity Hospice and Algoma Long Term Care Unit for the care and compassion that they gave Pat and his family.
