Nancy J. (Detampel) Challe, age 85 of Kewaunee died on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on November 21, 1936 in Kewaunee to the late Emanuel (E.P.) And Rose (Tischler) Detampel.
She graduated from Holy Rosary Grade school and Kewaunee High School with the class of 1954. After high school she worked for the Federal Government in Milwaukee for several years and then attended St. Norbert College.
Nancy married Cletus Challe at Holy Rosary Church on May 15, 1965.
Nancy taught piano lessons and also played trombone in the Algoma Community band for many years. She and Cletus owned and operated a motel and charter fishing business in Algoma for many years. She had the unique ability to know and recognize every guest.
Survivors include her husband of fifty-six years, Cletus; two daughters and sons-in-law: Jodi and Mark Snyder, Clarklake, MI; Vicki and Jeff Vollenweider, Kewaunee; two grandsons: Gunnar Snyder and 2nd Lieutenant Jeffrey (J.J.) Vollenweider Jr.; two brothers-in-law: Wayne Rabas, Kewaunee and Raymond Challe, Algoma; a sister-in-law: Ruth Challe, Green Bay.
She was preceded in death by a brother: Donald (Shirley) Detampel and a sister: Shirley Rabas; a brother-in-law: Darrell Challe; two sisters-in-law: Carol Challe and Judy Challe.
Friends may call after 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Saturday, December 11 at Holy Rosary Church, Kewaunee. Mass of Christian Burial wil be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. by Fr. James Dillenburg. Burial will follow in Holy Rosary Cemetery.
