On Tuesday February, 26, 2019, our Mother Mildred Rose (Fiala) Halada went to her eternal home. Daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother: Nurse. Our mother was all of these and proud of every one, not for herself but for everyone she came into contact with, because of these roles. Born to Frank and Anna (Blahnik) Fiala May 29, 1919 in Kewaunee she was the 2nd of six children. She graduated Kewaunee High Class of 1936, on her 17th birthday, and because the family could not afford to send her on to school, she went to work for the Kewaunee Coop. She married Frank Halada on January 31, 1940 at Holy Rosary in Kewaunee and moved to Casco to raise their family of eight children. After forty years on the farm and hundreds of sheephead card parties, she fulfilled her high school dream of going to school by obtaining her LPN degree from NWTC. She worked at Brown County Mental Health Center, and then moved to Allouez to shorten her commute and to take care of our Dad who had a farm accident. For many years she enjoyed monthly breakfast with other retired nurses from the Health Center. Mildred and Frank enjoyed their retirement visiting family and friends all over the US, going "up North" to the cabin in Crivitz, and playing cards. There was always a sheephead game somewhere. To keep her hands and mind busy, she crocheted 99 afghans and countless doilies for family and friends. When she could no longer manage the apartment she moved to Paradise Estates in Kewaunee, to come Full Circle, back home, where she started another card club.
