Joyce L. Shimanek, age 86 of Kewaunee went unexpectantly, to her Heavenly Home on Monday, September 19, 2022. She was born on December 31, 1935 in Carlton to the late John and Ella (Nimmer) Tess.
She graduated from Kewaunee High School with the Class of 1953, She married Alvin Shimanek on November 16, 1957. He preceded her in death on September 17, 2002.After raising a family and farming she was a Certified Nursing Assistant for over 20 years at Kewaunee Health Care Center. She was a long-time member of St. Peter Church in Carlton and an active member of the Ladies Aid and Bible Study. She belonged to the Senior Center Card Club, Sheepshead Marathon and Kewaunee Homemakers. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren attending their various activities. She kept her mind sharp with watching “Jeopardy & Wheel of Fortune” and her many word searches. Her love for Wisconsin sports led to many hours of cheering.
Survivors include: her children Dennis & Debby Shimanek, Jim (special friend-Nona) Shimanek, Mary Fields (special friend-Brian); grandchildren Denny (Sam) Shimanek; Shaun (Jacob) Holm; Josh Fields and great grandchildren; Abby, Hailey, and Devin Shimanek, Elli Bertrang, and Connor and Noah Holm. Brother Roland (Marian)Tess and sister-in-law Marie Tess, and brother-in-law Myron Shimanek. There were also numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by siblings Edwin (June) Tess; Erna (Harvey) Schneider; Gilbert (LaVerne) Tess; Gerhart (Grace) Tess; Lillian (John) Seidl; John Tess; Orville Tess; Pearl (Mike) Brusky her mother and father in-law Peter and Antonia Shimanek, and sisters-in-laws Marcella Shimanek and Joanne Shimanek.
Friends may call after 9:00 AM Saturday, September 24 at St Peter Lutheran Church, until the time of services. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM by Pastor Bruce Schwark. Burial will follow at St. Hedwig’s Cemetery.
The family would like to give special thanks to Kewaunee Ambulance Team and Bellin Health Staff Kewaunee, especially Bonnie Mueller-Waigand for their exceptional care.
Memorials may be made to St. Peters Lutheran, Kewaunee Area Scholarship Inc. or a charity of choice. Mom and Grandma you are with the Lord and we love you. “Lord willing we know we will see you again.”
