Jeffrey M. Rice , 71, of Kewaunee, passed away on January 29, 2023, after a long journey with pancreatic cancer. He was born on April 20, 1951, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His childhood and early adult life were spent in Milwaukee, with his parents, John and Lois Rice, and he moved to Door County in 1973.
Jeff in his younger years worked as a truck driver. Later in life, he drove bus tours, and then he put his love of telling stories to work by working as a tour guide doing trolly tours in Tombstone, Arizona. His lifelong interests were Packer football, golf, camping, fishing, playing pool, music, and reading. He enjoyed spending winters in Arizona and spending time in many National Parks with his companion, Helen and his dog, Annie. He enjoyed taking railroad trips on Amtrak.
He is survived by his companion, Helen Coffen; mother, Lois Rice; his children, Morgan (Kristi) Rice and, Lauren (Justin) Daoust and their children; Helen’s 5 children and their families; the mother of his children, Bev Knutson-Bochek; he is further survived by his cousins, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father John Rice, a favorite cousin, and his aunts and uncles.
There will be a private family memorial service at a later date.
A special thanks goes to Unity Hospice and the staff of Algoma Long Term Care for their care and concern they showed at the end of Jeff’s life. Memorials can be made in his honor to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, Kanab, Utah.
