James J. Vanness , 61, of Algoma passed away unexpectedly on Sunday March 11, 2018. He was born on February 7, 1957 to the late William and Josie (Soquet) Vanness. He was a graduate of Algoma High School. After high school he worked at Olsonite Corporation for 27 years. He currently worked at Vollrath Co. in Kewaunee WI. On May 3, 1980 he married Susan Heim in Casco. Jim loved being outdoors, watching the boats come in, bird watching and gardening. He also liked going out to Richard’s for chicken. He especially enjoyed his dog Haley and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his wife Susan of 37 years; his daughters Ashley (Logan) Rankin, and Brittany (Jim) Sullivan; grandchildren Landon and Addison Rankin, and Tru Sullivan; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Wayne (Joyce) Heim, Lloyd (Joyce) Heim, and Rosemary Heim. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Josie Vanness; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Ray and Florence Heim; his brother-in-law Raymond Heim Jr., and sister-in-law Patsy Heim.
Visitation will be held at Wiesner & Massart Funeral Home, 1617 Flora Ave., Algoma, on Wednesday March 14, 2018 from 4 to 8 p.m. Closing prayer service will be at 8 p.m. Visitation will continue Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Algoma from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral Mass to follow at 11 a.m. with Fr. Peter Stryker officiating. Burial to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared on the tribute wall.
