James Lawrence Toppe , 79, was born into eternal life on January 23, 2017 at the Algoma Medical Center & Long Term Care Unit.
He leaves behind his sister Janet Zill (Toppe) of Milwaukee, Nieces Kathie Ehlke (Toppe) of Waukesha, WI, Lisa Chamberlain (Zill) of Houston, TX, Laurie Mallum (Zill) and nephew David Zill also from Milwaukee.
James was born and raised in Algoma,WI the son of Lawrence and Marie Toppe (Geiger). He attended the University of Wisconsin Green Bay and majored in Chemistry. In 1959 he began a 20 year career with the Navy. After serving in the Navy he called San Diego, CA home until he returned to Algoma in 1993.
James will be remembered most by the family for his love for the Chicago Cubs. He became a fan at 9 years old, one year after the Cubs played in the 1945 World Series losing to the Detroit Tigers. However, In the last year of his life he was able to witness his beloved Chicago Cubs become champions of the 2016 World Series winning against the Cleveland Indians.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 30, 2017 starting at 1:00 pm at Wiesner & Massart Funeral Home - Algoma, 1617 Flora Ave, Algoma, WI 54201, Funeral service to follow at 4:00 at the funeral home with Pastor John Moll officiating. Online condolence messages may be expressed here .
