James “Jim” A. Nemecek, 82, Kewaunee, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2023. He was born on November 27, 1940, to the late Alhart and Sophie (Wacek) Nemecek. On October 15, 1966, he married the love of his life, Carol Post. Jim proudly served in the U.S. Army overseas in Europe, and then working as a machinist at Hamacheks and Kewaunee Engineering, finishing his career as a shop supervisor at Valmet.
Jim enjoyed many things in life, from working in the yard/garden, keeping the lawn looking neat, feeding and watching birds while keeping the nasty squirrels away, removing snow for his neighbors, being the janitor at church, coaching and umpiring games at Immanuel Lutheran Church and School (where the kids had a nickname for him, “Huggy Bear”), doing small engine repair and fixing bikes, really, always helping anyone. He also enjoyed old tractors and attending the Thresheree’s. And, being a proud grandpa, he loved spending time going to the grandkids sporting events and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 57 ½ years, Carol; children, Dan (Andrea) Nemecek, Elisa Nemecek, Christina Nemecek, Joe (Tricia) Nemecek; grandchildren, Cameron, Collin, Caden, Will, Mason, and Austin; sister, Arleen Heisel; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Zeitler, Rita Post, Donna Post, Arlene Gruetzmacher, Shirley (Sheldon) Prodell; brother-in-law, Roger (Carol) Post; as well as by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alhart and Sophie Nemecek; an infant brother, Gary; sister, Audrey (Malcolm) Bailey; in-laws, Norman Post, Harold Zeitler, Bob Post, Bernice (Wallace) Machut, Roy Post, Wayne Gruetzmacher, and Ellen Post.
