Gertrude (Rivers) Cornell , 93 of Algoma passed away at home on Sunday February 8, 2015. She was born December 16, 1921 to the late Alphonse and Dorothy (Gielen) Rivers. Gertrude married Harvey Cornell on August 26, 1967. Gertrude graduated from Algoma High School and then attended the Green Bay Badger Business College. She was the administrative secretary and bookkeeper for Algoma Public Schools from 1942 until her retirement in 1970. Gertrude was an adult server and Eucharistic minister at St. Mary Church, Algoma. She did volunteer work at the Algoma Public Library, Sweatermakers for The Missions and Kewaunee County Blood Pressure Clinics.
Gertrude is survived by her step-grandchildren, Julie (William) Randby, John II (Meri Jo) Cornell, Jane (Gregory) Bruder and Jill (Joseph) Kallay as well as 8 step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Harvey, step-son Dr. John (Christine) Cornell and step-great-granddaughter Kailee Rose Bruder.
Visitation will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Algoma on Thursday, February 12, 2015 from 9:30-11 AM, Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM with Fr. Ron Colombo officiating.
