George Joseph Orr, 82, Kewaunee, died Saturday morning, at the Atrium Care facility after a six month illness. George was born on September 19th, 1939 in San Diego, California to the late James and Kathryn Orr. He spent his formative years moving from state to state as part of a Navy family. He graduated from Kewaunee High School in 1958, and enlisted in the Army that same year. He served in Germany, and upon returning home, began working for the Mirro Corporation, where he remained for over twenty-five years. Following his retirement, he worked part-time at the Kewaunee Fitness Center for several years. He married the former Marlene Seidl in Krok on June 24, 1967, and would have soon have celebrated fifty-five years of marriage. His sons, Kevin and Kurt, were the pride of his life.
George had many interests; the arts, especially music, gardening, cooking, swimming, working out and most importantly, being with people. When George walked into a room, he lit it up with his easy smile and ability to converse. He loved going to the fitness center every morning to swim and spend time with his many friends. Over the years, he had many close calls because of his failing heart, but never lost his optimism or love of life.
George was preceded in death by one son, Kurt (1991), his father and mother James and Kathryn, in-laws Peter and Lucy Seidl, and sister Louella.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene, son Kevin, daughter-in-law Kelly, six grandchildren, Jenna (Colton) Robach, Mckenzie, Lexi, Tyler, Zachary and Morgan, great-grandchildren, Jaxson & Gianna Robach, his sister Cleva (Alan) Pelnar, brother Bob (Sue) Orr, many nephews and nieces and extended members of Marlene’s family: Peter (Patti) Seidl, Colleen (Kurt) Burmeister, Connie (Kurt) Kadletz.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mohammad Jazayeri, the cardiac staff at Bellin Hospital and Clinic for their loving support over the many years, Dr. Thomas Zenner, his long time family doctor, PA. Bonnie Miller, Dr. Blake Lemke and the entire staff at Atrium in Kewaunee for his care during the last six months.
The funeral will be held at 11 AM on Saturday May 21st at Holy Rosary Church in Kewaunee, with visitation at the church beginning at 9 AM. Burial to follow at Holy Rosary Cemetery.
