George Monroe Hocks, 85, of Rio Creek passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 27, 2021. He was born to the late John and Bridget (Barrette) Hocks on February 22, 1936 in Rio Creek, WI. He graduated from Casco High School in 1954. Upon graduation he was employed as a milk truck driver for the Rio Creek Cheese Factory. In 1957 he married the love of his life, Carol Jean Delebreau, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lincoln. He bought the family farm in 1961. George maintained a dairy farm and worked for Leyse Aluminum Company (now Volrath) in Kewaunee for 41 years. George spent his days on the farm and in the fields. He passed down his passion for farming to his grandson, Isaac Vertz. George enjoyed family gatherings and watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren growing up. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports, especially baseball. George was known as a handyman, being able to fix just about anything. During his retirement he continued to wake early to maintain the farm with his grandson Isaac by his side. Together, they kept the farm going with beef and pork livestock and field work. George was a honest and hard working man who loved his family and farmed until the very last day of his life.
He is survived by his daughters, Cynthia (Dan) Vertz, Algoma and Christina (Craig) Giesseman, Sturgeon Bay, grandchildren Eric (Lacey) Vertz, DePere, Amy (Bryan) Steiner, Appleton, Isaac (Beckie) Vertz, Algoma, Cory Giesseman, Green Bay, Casey (Taylor Anschutz), Sturgeon Bay, great grandchildren Ava, Alexa, Lily Vertz, Kayleigh, Jaina, Tinley Steiner, Mason and Chase Vertz, Parker Giesseman, and special nephew John Hocks.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Carol Jean Hocks, parents Bridget and John Hocks, his brothers BJ, Bernard and his sister Rosanne Jochmann; father- and mother-in-law Jule & Irene Delebreau; sister- and brother-in-law, Rosemary (Hilbert) Jorgensen.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 29, 2021 from 4-7 pm at Kinnard Funeral & Cremation Services – Casco with a prayer service at 6:45 pm. Visitation will continue at St. Peter’s Catholic Church - Lincoln, Saturday, October 30, 2021 from 10-11 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am with Fr. Edward Looney officiating.
