Gary J. Massart

November 7, 1952 — January 14, 2025

Casco

Gary J. Massart, 72, Casco, passed away on January 14, 2025. Gary was born on November 7, 1952, to the late Harold and Delores (Charles) Massart. He married Kathy Englebert on June 25, 1993, in Kewaunee.

Gary was known for his social spirit. He found great fulfillment in his work as an Assistant Service Manager in diesel mechanics, but before we get into that, let's talk about where his heart truly was, with his family and friends, and he cherished every moment spent with them-especially the gatherings at the park parties at Red River and Bay Beach.

His Tuesday nights with his friends Danny, Mike, Darrell, Ronney, and Laure were a time to gather and "solve the world's problems" while enjoying each other's company. Gary held a special place in his heart for tractor pulls, where he treasured spending time with his buddies. And of course he loved spending time at "The Shack."

Gary was an excellent husband to Kathy and a devoted father, Gary's family was his greatest joy. He relished in binge-watching medical dramas with his daughter Alysia, yet another reflection of the close bond they shared.

With all the things he loved, Gary was always a worker. He started out working after high school at Joe Vogel Garage, then onto Bissan Blacktop, then he did a stint at Casco Cheese company before settling into his long-time career. He worked at International Harvester before it was bought out and became Packer City International where he worked as a diesel mechanic / assistant service manager, he worked there until his retirement, nearly 50 years. Of course, while he worked there, he worked some more, he owned and operated the Forest Villa in Forestville for several years as well. Not to forget that in his younger years, he spent time as fireman for Southern Door Fire Department.

Gary is survived by his wife, Kathy Massart; children, Alysia Massart, and Jodi (Justin) Haese; grandchildren, Christopher VanDyke, and Jason VanDyke; brothers, Ronald (Leah Ann) Massart, and Mike (Ineke) Massart; nieces and nephews, Ashley (goddaughter) (Chad) Bonikowske, Missy Massart, Tiffany (Scott) Hanks, Autumn (James) Cowell, Brian (Kelsey) Massart; goddaughter, Deanna (Jerry) Naze; aunts and uncles, Janet Charles, Phyllis Charles, and Bob (Jean) Tucker; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Linda (Gary) Olson, Gary (Chris) Englebert, Patrick Englebert, Perry (Bonnie) Englebert, Leah Ann (Ronald) Massart, and Tom (Bobbie Jo) Englebert.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Delores Massart; an infant brother; brother-in-law, Dale Englebert; aunts and uncles, Roy (Helen) Massart, Robert Charles, John (Ruby) Charles, Milton Charles, Norbert (Lynn) Charles, Susie Tucker; and his father- and mother-in-law, Lindy and Carole Englebert.
