Ellen (Vannes) Szydel, 77, Kewaunee, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at home with her family by her side. Born in Green Bay on November 4, 1946, to the late Donald and Ethel Vannes, Ellen lived a life rich in family and cherished memories.

Ellen graduated from Green Bay West High School. On May 29, 1971, she married the love of her life, Paul Szydel. Ellen was a very caring and giving person that loved her children, which showed as she lovingly teased them. Ellen enjoyed spending time with her family, and her cat, Ruben, who also provided her with great entertainment. Ellen loved to travel, and to play sheepshead and bingo as often as she could.

Over the years, Ellen worked at Green Bay Blue Printing. Ellen then was a manager at the Qmart in Kewaunee. She continued her caring and giving personality when she worked as a caregiver at Linden Manor and Silver Leaf Manor in Kewaunee. Ellen also worked as a lunch aide/recess monitor for the Kewaunee Schools District.

Ellen is survived by her husband, Paul; her loving children, Kim (Brian) Sprang, Two Rivers, Laurie (Dale) Skocir, Green Bay, Chris (Susan) Szydel, Kewaunee; her grandson, Alexander Szydel; step-grandchildren, Dustin Skocir, Anthony (Gwen) Herzog, and Atira Herzog; step-great-grandchildren, Bronson Skocir, Jeremiah Skocir, Gianelle Skocir, and Norah Skocir; sister, Kathie (Dennis) Nickiel, Green Bay, brother-in-law, Leo (Joanie) Szydel, Manitowoc; sister-in-law, Rita (Arnold) Mancheski, Valders.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Ethel Vannes; and in-laws, Leo and Clara Szydel.
