Our dear Father, Donald George Taylor, 92, passed away peacefully Monday, January 31, 2022, at Woodside Senior Communities, Green Bay. He was born September 13, 1929, in Two Rivers; the oldest son of the late Harold and Gladys (Strutz) Taylor.
He attended Twin Elder Grade School and was a 1947 graduate of Washington High School, Two Rivers. He met the love of his life, Mary Strancel, at a dance in Mishicot. They were married September 23, 1950, at United Methodist Church, Two Rivers. They celebrated 48 years of marriage before our Mother’s passing May 21, 1998.
Our parents bought a dairy farm in the Town of Carlton in 1951 where they farmed for their entire life before retiring in 1987. After retirement the winter months were spent at Clerbrook Resort in Florida where our parents enjoyed golfing, shuffleboard, dancing and cards with their many friends.
Our Father was not only a successful farmer, but hunter and fisherman as well. He owned and operated a fishing charter business out of Kewaunee. There were yearly elk hunting trips to Idaho and a trip to Canada for hunting caribou. At a young age he began deer hunting in Hayward at Victory Buck Camp. For many years Don was a member of the West Shore Sportsman’s Club in Two Rivers.
Our Father enjoyed watching Milwaukee Brewers, Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badger games. He enjoyed gambling trips to casinos.
Those left behind to celebrate his life are four daughters and their families: Barbara Taylor, Sheboygan Falls; Susie (Jim) Rasmussen, De Pere; Betty (Joe) Augustine, Sheboygan; Janice (Greg) Rabas, De Pere. Seven grandchildren: Amy (Dan) Breen, Jason (special friend Gabrielle) Augustine, Andy (Alicia) Rasmussen, Steve (Kristen) Rasmussen, John (Liz) Rasmussen, Jessica Rabas, Michael (Laura) Rabas. Fourteen great-grandchildren: Declan, Isla, Noah, Sahara, Amaya, Ariana, Remy, Finnley, Leo, Annie, Margaret, Jack, Clara, Kate. Two sisters/brother-in-laws: Diane (Jack) Weber, Nancy (Gary) Rabas. One brother/sister-in-law: George (Genevieve) Taylor. Many nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Preceded in death are his parents: Harold/Gladys Taylor; two brothers/sister-in-laws: James/Joan Taylor, Robert/Darlene (Vander Bloomen) Taylor; one sister/brother-in-law: Jane/Robert Allie; two nephews: Kenny Allie, Danny Taylor. Barbara Smith of whom our Dad was married to for 15 years also preceded him in death.
Even though our Dad was an avid sportsman, it was important to him to be a good provider for his family. It wasn’t always easy, but he never gave up and did what he knew best to achieve that. Later in life he realized that having four daughters was a true blessing. He let this be known to us many times and to others whom he had conversations with. His caregivers would mention he talked a lot about his daughters and how proud he was.
Funeral services will be held at Grace Congregational United Church of Christ, Two Rivers, on Monday, February 7, 2022; visitation 9:30 am to 11:00 am with services to follow. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Colie Bettivia.
In lieu of flowers, to honor our Father, a memorial fund has been established for Woodside Senior Community.
Our family sends our sincere thank you to the caring and compassionate staff at Woodside Senior Communities who tended to our Father’s every need as if they were caring for their own family member. You truly are angels.
