David Koss , 66, Casco, passed away Thursday, Nov 15, 2012, at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay. He was born March 25, 1946 to the late Allen and Ethel (Dhuey) Koss.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and is survived by his brother Joe (Kathy) Koss, Noblesville, In. and Lee (Cheryl) Koss, Hamilton, Va.; nieces and nephews, Kristine (Joe) Hillman, Joseph (Kim) Koss, Nicole (Russ) Seiler, Brynn Koss, Timothy Koss, Stephen (Cara) Koss, Rachel (Jonathan) O'Neal, Mathew Koss and Sharon Koss. Grandnieces and nephews; Kara and Jack Hillman; Tyler and Audrey Koss; Bailey, Colten and Mia Seiler and Charlotte O'Neal.
When David was a young boy he contracted polio during the epidemic summer of 1955. After spending time in an iron lung under the dedicated care of his Aunt Laverne Dhuey, a nurse, and his parents, he recovered enough to make a family move to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where they lived for one year because of his health.
David always loved horses, which his father had many of on their small horse farm. As a young man he took over the management of the horses and competed and earned medals in a number of equestrian events.
He had a serious spinal fusion operation and long recuperation period in a cast and spent his eighth grade being homeschooled. He recovered, graduated from Casco High School in 1965, and went on to complete his education, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Oshkosh State University and a Master's Degree in Special Education from Stout University. David served as a biology, junior high, and special education teacher for a number of years at Southern Door High School and a Catholic grade school in Pembine Wisconsin.
David also loved scouting, earning the rank of Eagle Scout in 1965.
David developed post-polio syndrome in his 50's, gradually loosing much of his capacity to breathe on his own.
He will be remembered for his generosity towards his nephews and nieces and later, grand nephews and nieces. David loved shopping throughout the year so he could make them happy at Christmas. Many of these gifts involved the Green Bay Packers, his beloved team.
Friends may call at Wiesner & Massart Funeral Home, Casco, on Sunday Nov. 18th from 4-6 pm, Rosary at 5 pm. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Casco, with Fr. Milton Suess officiating. Burial in the Holy Trinity Cemetery.
