David P. Kirchman

June 28, 1941 — October 28, 2021

Algoma

David P. Kirchman , left this earthly world on October 28th to be with his Savior and loved ones that travelled before him.  He was born to the late Paul and Nellie (Mikle) Kirchman on June 28, 1941.  He married Joyce Yunk on July 21, 1962 in Lincoln.  When asked how they met his response was “at the Door County Fair, we rode the Ferris wheel, I rocked the car at the top and she married me anyway.”  David’s love for Joyce deepened over the years which was quite evident in the time they shared at Oak Creek Assisted Living in their last days together.  He enjoyed time with family, especially the grand and great-grandchildren.  Amazing them with his disappearing quarter trick, imitation of a train whistle, and ear wiggling.

He worked for the Algoma Utility for 30+ years starting out as a lineman and with continuing education, hard work and dedication retired as head of the water department in 2000. He was a member of the Algoma Fire Department for a number of years and was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rankin and served his church in various ways over the years.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman bringing home many trophy bucks and record size fish.  Even a snapping turtle or two whose meat quivered in the refrigerator until it was made into soup, which gave my sister and I quite a start as youngsters.   He was also quite handy and spent many hours puttering in his workshops.

David is survived by his children, Sherri Kuss, Algoma, and Michele (husband Daniel Obi) Kirchman, Algoma; grandchildren, Jason Kuss, Algoma, Andrea (fiancé Aaron) Porath, De Pere, Jennifer (Joey) Delcorps, Green Bay, Steve (Andie) Jandrin, Green Bay, and Ashley Walter, Algoma; great-grandchildren, Jack and Emma Porath, Keegan and Ashton Doubeck, Hazel and Oscar Jandrin; brother- in-laws Jerry (Sue) Yunk, Sturgeon Bay, Joey (special friend Sue) Yunk, Kewaunee, Ronald Holtz, Madison; sister-in-laws June (Don) Hucek, Forestville, Julie (Randy) Jacobs and Linda Yunk, Casco; as well as by beloved pet dog, Mindy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Kirchman; parents, Paul and Nellie (Mikle) Kirchman; brothers, Harvey, Raymond and sister Luella Sibilsky.  In-laws, James and John Yunk, Jeanette Paul, Joan Holtz; and mother- and father-in-law, Phillip and Marie (Malfroid) Yunk.

Last respects can be paid from 3pm until time of service at 4pm on Sunday, October 31 at St John’s Lutheran Church, Rankin WI with Dr. Rev. Christopher Jackson officiating.  This service will be in honor of both David and Joyce as due to COVID a service was not held for Joyce at the time of her passing on April 28, 2020.  A meal and fellowship to follow.  Kinnard Funeral & Cremation Services, formerly known as Wiesner & Massart Funeral Home is assisting the family, Online condolence messages may be shared at www.KinnardFCS.com.

Special thank you to the caregivers at Oak Creek for their compassionate care through the years and to Unity Hospice for their support in his final hours.
