Darwin A. Diehm (Dar) aka … Puppa to the great grandkids he loved and adored passed away peacefully on September 8, 2023, at 88 years old.
Dar was born on November 2, 1934, in Lakeview Michigan to the late Robert and Mildred (Denslow) Diehm. He grew up in Stephenson Michigan where he graduated high school. He attended Central Michigan University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He was a member of the Sigma Beta Tau fraternity. After college Darwin was very proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army.
Over the years Darwin’s career brought him to Sturgeon Bay, WI as the accounting manager for Marine Travellift in 1989. He retired as the Controller for the company in 2005. Sturgeon Bay, WI was his home for 35 years before moving to Florida to enjoy the sunshine and warm weather until his passing.
Many things brought Dar great pleasure in life, but none as much as the day he met his soulmate and best friend Cory. In their 45 years together, they enjoyed many adventures. Whether it was getting married in Vegas, sitting on the deck in Cedar River Michigan watching the grandkids swim, spending a day at Disney or one of the many cruises they enjoyed with family and friends. You would always catch Darwin stealing a glance, sharing a smile, or holding her hand. They were partners, best friends and so much more.
Dar enjoyed hunting and was a passionate gardener. In quieter times he enjoyed doing crosswords, sudoku, and one of his greatest pleasures was watching his grandkids play.
Dar is survived by his wife of 45 years Cory (Handy) Diehm; Sons, Craig (Christine) Diehm, Darren Diehm; daughter, Denise Diehm; and stepdaughter Teresa Gilbert; 4 grandchildren, Jessica, Mychalla, Montana, and Austin. 2 step-grandchildren, Ciara, and Dylan; 10 great-grandchildren, Kayden, who was the first to call Dar Puppa and always held a special place in his heart, Shila, Jaxxon, Atticus, Huxxley, Gilbert, Forrest, Ava, Ashton, and Archer; brother, Nick Diehm; sisters, Sally Oliver, and Sue (Jim) Kiecker.
Dar was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Mildred Diehm; brothers, Dennis, Gerald “Jerry” (Ruth) Handy; brother-in-law, Bob Oliver; and granddaughter, Sarah Diehm.
In lieu of a funeral Dar wanted a Celebration of Life. The Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, October 21, 2023, from 1:00-4:00 pm at Drift Inn, 1535 South Ashland Ave., De Pere, WI 54115.
