Cecelia S. (Vandervest) Rubens

Cecelia Sarah (Vandervest) Rubens , went to her heavenly home at the age of 96 years. She was born, November 7th, 1924, in Duvall Wisconsin to the late Josephine (Bader) and Joseph Vandervest.

Ceil married Robert Rubens on March 29th, 1942, in Duvall. Bob preceded her in death on November 29th, 1975. Together they had four children. In her younger years she spent time working on the family farm and then at Rubens Hatchery in Rosiere. She later moved to Brussels. Ceil worked at Larson Can Co., Shoe Factory, Southern Door Schools, Marchant’s Foods, and St. Vincent's hospital. She went to school at the age of 51 years to be an LPN and worked at St. Vincent’s until retirement. During that time, she lived in Green Bay until she moved to Oak Creek in Luxemburg. She enjoyed many travels to Europe and the U.S. but most important were the love of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Ceil is survived by her children, Rebecca Laurent, Indiana, Rachel (Dale) Thiry, Casco, and Randy (Kim) Rubens, Sturgeon Bay; her sister, Sister Martin Vandervest, 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by in-laws, Rod (Nancy) Rubens, Sharon Moseler, Joan Rubens; as well as by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; dear daughter Bobbi Rubens; her mother and father; grandson Bart Thiry; son-in-law, Don Laurent; brothers, Louie (Marie) Vandervest, Joseph (Margaret) Vandervest, Michael (Rose) Vandervest an infant brother Martin; sisters, Mary (Fred) Borlee, Anna (Raymond) Lacrosse, Esther (Clifford) Legrave, Rose (Henry) Metzler, Mabel (Joe) Dellis, Mildred (Francis) Nellis; and mother- and father-in-law Hazel and Elmer Rubens; and other in-laws, Russell (Bernice) Rubens, Lee Rubens, Bette (Lloyd) Drossart.

Visitation will be held from 9-11 am on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at St. Hubert’s Catholic Church - Rosiere. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am with Fr. Dennis Drury officiating. Special thanks to Oak Creek Assisted Living staff, and Marie, Mindy, and Jessica who made a home for mom and treated her with “special” attention. She loved them all! Thanks also to Lois, Jane, Pat, and Lee for all their visits. Special thanks also to granddaughter Brenda and great-granddaughter Robin who were always there for mom.
