Bernard (Bernie) Bykoski , 77, surrounded by his wife and daughter passed away peacefully at Aurora Bay Care Hospital on December 12, 2015 after a long courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born on March 11, 1938 to the late Ben and Edith (Barrette) Bykoski.
On August 11, 1962 he married the love of his life Donna Lukes at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Casco, Wisconsin. He was a loving husband to his wife Donna of 53 years, an incredible father to his daughter Connie and a compassionate man and friend to many. Family time was #1 in his life! He enjoyed spending time at the cottage in Door County. Boating and jet skiing while trying to catch the big fish that always seemed to get away was always a thrill. He also enjoyed watching and taking photos of birds, talking about his Las Vegas trip and following the stock market daily. He was an avid Packer's fan and has been a season ticket holder for the past 53 years. He also enjoyed being a participant in bowling and golf leagues through his job, playing in bridge tournaments and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Bernie was a 1956 graduate of Casco High School. Following graduation he moved to Milwaukee and enrolled in M.A.T.C. as part of an apprenticeship program with Nordberg Manufacturing Company. This program enabled him to work in various divisions at the company including mine hoist, diesel engine and railway, where he was a senior designer and photographer for 40 years.
Bernie is survived by his wife, Donna; daughter Connie Bykoski, Green Bay; sister Bernice Koss, Gladwater TX; nieces Linda Koss-Clark, Roxanne Koss- Betlinski, Tana Koss-Rucinski; nephews Rick Koss, Gary Koss, Randy Koss. He will be greatly missed by special friends Nancy Marohl, Ronda and Shelly Reed (who sent him a card every week for the past 2 years during his last battle with cancer), cousins and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Edith Bykoski; parents-in-law, Frank and Libby Lukes; brother-in-law, Marcel Koss.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (25 N Elgin Ave, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin). The family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00-11:00am. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00am with Msgr Jim Dillenburg, Fr. Carl Schmitt and Fr. Tony Birdsall officiating. Entombment will be in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.
Bernie's family would like to thank all of his outstanding doctors at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center (Doctors Bernstein, McGartland, Caine, Rihawi, Bhatia, Ziaja, and Kolonowski) and at Aurora Bay Care Hospital especially Dr. Ashwani Bhatia, the caring staff at Rennes Health and Rehab Center and many very special neighbors and friends.
