Alice R. Koller

September 20, 1920 — November 10, 2017

Alice Regina Koller, 97, was born September 20,1920 to William and Grace (Seeman) Koller.  She passed from this life on Friday morning, November 10, at  Maple Ridge Care Center in Green Bay.  Alice grew up on a farm in the Town of West Kewaunee, attended local schools, graduated from Kewaunee High School in 1938 and, as a young adult, inherited land from her uncle Philip Koller in 1943 that was to become the Kettle Hole Resort on Found Lake near St. Germain.

With her parents, who sold the farm, she moved to the resort which they developed together by building houses and cottages for rental to fishermen and vacationers.  Her father passed away in 1954.  At a time when few women did such work she independently and successfully operated the resort until retirement.  She and her mother then moved to a new home in Eagle River.  Over those years she developed skills of a carpenter, woodworker, craftsman and horticulturist by attending classes in Eagle River.  Her mother passed away in 1989 and in 1991 Alice had a new home built in Kewaunee so she could live nearer to relatives and friends of years past.

Alice had a profound interest in landscaping and gardening and was meticulous in care of her properties whether on Found Lake, in Eagle River, or in Kewaunee which was evident in the appearance of her yard and garden.  Her large display of begonias were evident on the north side of the house each summer.  Although she had no children or pets of her own, she cared very deeply for the children, pets, and wildlife of the neighborhoods in which she lived. She was known for her exceptional cooking and baking; --her appreciation of quality workmanship; and --the very warm welcome she gave to visitors.

As it became more difficult to provide the care for her property that she wanted, she thoroughly appreciated the help of neighbors and  and her yardman Joe.  Cousin Mary Jane  Schanilec was especially helpful making it possible for Alice to remain in her home as long as possible and then spending countless hours attending to details Alice was unable to handle after moving to Green Bay.  She is predeceased by her parents and sister Rose.
