Vincent Delain Sr

August 5, 1927 — June 1, 2012

Vincent Xavier Delain Sr. was born Aug. 5, 1927, in Algoma, Wis., to Fred and Mary (Vandervest) Delain and died June 1, 2012, at the age of 84. He attended Algoma High School and was an active member and State Officer of the Future Farmers of America. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States navy. After serving in the Navy, he returned to the family farm business and married the love of his life, Elizabeth J. Reince. After selling the family farm, he worked for the Algoma Plywood and then Person Builders. In 1995, he began work with Badger Breeders, Inc. until his retirement in 1991. He enjoyed talking with the farmers and formed life-long friendships.

With the help of good friends, he built a cabin on 40 acres of land in Armstrong Creek, Wis., where family and friends enjoyed summer outings and many good times. Vincent especially enjoyed deer hunting with his sons, and one year shot a bear which he made into a rug for the cabin. He loved telling stories of his adventures "up north," laughing, and playing cards.

Vincent was an active member with the Kewaunee County Dept. of Civilian Defense, the Casco American Legion, and was Financial Secretary for the Catholic Order of Foresters for 20 years. He was a life-long member and trustee for St. Peter Catholic Church and a longtime Holy Name Society member. Vincent served on the school boards for the LaFayette, Casco, and Luxemburg-Casco School Districts.

Vincent is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth Delain. He is the beloved father of his 12 children, Vincent and Diane (VanGoethem) Delain, Susan (Dale) Breitlow, David and Judy (VandenBogard) Delain, Diane (Mike) DeJardin, Gary and Sanya (Syrstad) Delain, John and Sue (Weidner) Delain, Thomas and LouAnna (Schultz) Delain, Mary (Richard) Klemz, Peter and Rebecca (Haegele) Delain, Christopher and Lori (Jennings) Delain, Robert and Kim (Hartig) Delain, and Beth (Don) Treml.

He is also survived by 27 grandchildren, Todd (Jeanne) Delain, Tammy (Andy) Clayton, Chad (Trish) Delain, Danny Delain, Jay (Christina) Breitlow, Ty (Katie) Breitlow, Kisha (Charles) Schmidt, Eric (Erica) Delain, Megan (George) Jimenez, Kimberly Delain, Dawn (Terry) Stirn, Aaron (Leslie) Delain, Joshua Delain, Larissa Delain, Travis Delain, Kenric Klemz, Kayla Klemz, Paul Delain, Justin (Elizabeth) Delain, Shannon (Rick) Mueller, Brittany Delain, Luke Delain, Steven Delain, Zekiel Delain, Alessandra Delain, Jacob (Nicole) Treml, Kyle Treml as well as 25 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by son-in-law, Dale Breitlow and grandson, Benjamin Delain, Vincent will be dearly missed by his family and friends and remembered for his love of life and family.

Friends may call at Wiesner-Massart Funeral Home, Casco, on Sunday, June 3, from 4 to 8 p.m. Rosary 7 p.m. Sunday, Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Monday, June 4, at St. Peters Catholic Church, Lincoln, with Fr. Dennis Drury and Deacon Paul Zenefski officiating. Graveside Military Rites followed by burial in the parish cemetery. Online condolence messages may be expressed here .
