Martin (Marty) Evers, 87, Casco, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 after a short battle with leukemia.
He was born April 23, 1925 in Little Chute to the late John and Marie(Van Kessel) Evers. He graduated from Casco High School and attended UW Madison where he met Leona Weitzel while they were both working at a munitions factory during World War II. He married Leona(Lee) on September 18, 1948 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Casco. She preceded him in death on December 14, 2000.
Marty owned and operated Lakeview Lumber in Algoma until retirement. He belonged to the Lion's Clubs and was a Captain of the Coast Guard Auxillary and a member of Holy Trinity Holy Name Society. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.
Marty is survived by his children, Maureen (Rod) Kinnard, Casco, Cyndi (Keith) Sorenson, Illinois, Suzanne (Kurt) Vanden Heuvel, Seymour, Jody (Larry) Collar, New London, Joseph (partner Betsy Hintz) Evers, Luxemburg, Mary Ann (John) Collar, Black Creek, Scott (Brooke) Evers, Arizona; his stepson, Gary (Vicki) Weitzel, Indiana; grandchildren, Jenny (Paul) Siemers, Jacob (Krista) Kinnard, Abby Clark, Melodie (Brett) Coshnitzke, Katie Kosowski, Eric Sorenson, Kyle, Keenan and Kalli Vanden Heuvel, Nathan (special friend Shonda) Evers, John (Liz) Evers, Matthew Evers, Nicole (special friend Sean) Evers, Jordon Evers, Trisha Necklewicz, Ryan (special friend Traci) Hoffman, Chris Collar, Liz (Shawn) Kelly; step grandchildren, Travis (special friend Kriste) Weitzel, Trampas Weitzel, Toma (Tracy) Weitzel; 19 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Charles Wilson, Madison; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona; a son, John; two granddaughters, Jamie and Jessica Kinnard; an infant sister, Maureen; a sister, Annie Wilson.
Friends may call at Wiesner-Massart Funeral Home, Casco, on Friday, September 7, 2012 from 4 to 8 pm and again Saturday at the funeral home until 11am. Wake Service Friday at 6:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial 11:15am Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Casco, with Fr. Milton Suess officiating. Burial in the church cemetery.
