Mabel O. (DeJardin) Deprey

March 15, 1918 — May 31, 2016

Mabel O. Deprey , 98, formerly of Dykesville, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2016. She was born March 15, 1918 in the Town of Red River to the late Basil and Lucy (LuMaye) DeJardin. Mabel married Melvin Deprey, who preceded her in death on April 5, 1999. They married November 18, 1936 at St. Peter Church in Lincoln.

Mabel was the first woman in Kewaunee County to obtain a driver's license. She started hunting deer at the age of 43. After Melvin and her retired from farming, she continued to work at Algoma Plumbers and Algoma Hardwoods finally retiring driving whey truck for Lincoln Cheese Factory. Mom was a caregiver most of her life. She cared for her children, her husband, her mom and dad until their passing. Mom loved baking cookies, her special cheese torte and the best apple pie for her family. She also crocheted and her beautiful handmade loom rag rugs are still enjoyed my many. Her lover for music comforted her throughout the days and nights.

She is survived by her children, Carol Jacobs, Casco, Ken (Judy) Deprey, Dykesville, Lynn (Ken) Mraz, Forestville; her grandchildren Sue (Jeff) DeJardin, Shari (Sam) Kinnard, Dennis (Wendy) Jacobs, Mark (Lori) Jacobs, Chris (special friend Jeanette) Deprey, Melissa (Jeff) Jodar, Ken (Laura) Mraz, Jesse (special friend Jackie) Mraz, Stacy (Brad) Purper Deprey, Kurt (Special Friend Mike) Deprey; 15 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Myrtle Ripley; God-child Gloria Shimanek and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Keith Deprey; Son-in-law, Mick Jacobs; Sister Ethel (Bernard) Pinchart; Brother Orville (Joyce) DeJardin; Brother-in-laws, Robert Ripley and Clifford Deprey; Father-in-law and Mother-in-law Louis and Marion Deprey.

She was a quiet woman with a lot of wisdom and touched many lives. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church, Lincoln on Monday, June 6, 2016 from 8:00-10:30 am. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 with Father Steve Vanden Boogard and Deacon Paul Zenefski officiating. Burial will take place after the service in the St. Peter Cemetery. Wiesner & Massart Funeral Homes - Casco are handling arrangements. Online condolence messages may be expressed here .

The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Algoma Long Term Care for the wonderful care given to her during her stay there.
