Lloyd J. Vertz, 87, of Algoma passed away on Thursday April 2, 2015 at Oak Creek Assisted Living in Algoma. He was born on May 12, 1927 to the late Anton and Mary (Reynier) Vertz. He proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army. On June 4, 1955 he married Carol Mura at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Algoma. He was employed at Algoma Plywood until his retirement. Lloyd was an active member in his church and served as a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed camping and being a square dance caller.
Lloyd is survived by his wife Carol; his children Dan (Cindy) Vertz, Cindy (Patrick) LaLuzerne, Chris (Michael) Krueger, Debbie Pelnar, Diane (Jeff) Lischka, Mary (Jeff) Rentmeester, Joan (Rick) Alexander, and Kathy (Joe) Shemenkowski; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister-in-laws Veronica Vertz, Liz Uecker, Judy (Joe) Weise, and Marilyn (Ron) Pallex. He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law; son Gary; a grandson; a great-granddaughter; his twin brother Floyd; four sisters; three brothers; and a brother-in-law.
Visitation will be held at Wiesner & Massart Funeral Home, Algoma on Sunday April 5, 2015 from 4 to 8 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday April 6, 2015 at S. Mary's Catholic Church, Algoma from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. with Fr. Ron Columbo officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery with full military rites.
