Esther J. Dhuey, 93, of Casco passed away at Woodside Lutheran Home surrounded by her family on Monday July 7, 2014. She was born on September 28, 1920 in Door County to the late Isadore and Hortense (Jadin) Virlee. On June 24, 1943 she married Carl Dhuey at St Mary of the Snow Catholic Parish in Namur. He preceded her in death on February 5, 1976. Esther worked at U.S. Plywood, Algoma; Raton of Rio Creek; and Algoma Dowel Co. She also tended bar at Huceks in Euren , Koenig's in Lincoln, and worked at Slovan Country Inn for many years. She was also a member of St. Ann's Altar Society.
Esther is survived by three daughters Marilyn (Wayne) Maedke, Algoma; Char (Gary) Veeser, Casco; and Debbie (Dean) Ekberg, Howard; grandchildren Marc Maedke, Mike (Connie) Maedke, Shane (Ann) Maedke, Shannon (Brian) Nell, Jessie Ekberg, Nicole Ekberg, Chelsea Ekberg; great-grandchildren Shae and Skye Maedke, Jordyn and Justen Maedke, and Lydia and Isaac Nell; as well as many nieces and nephews. She is further survived by her special friends Urah Kerscher, Dorothy Springer, Vi Hanamann, and her many other friends at Casco Housing. Esther was preceded in death by sisters and brother Josie (Richard) DeGuelle, Mamie Virlee, Martha (Hubert) LaLuzerne, Norma (Harris) Berger, Lema Virlee, and Joseph (Lucy) Virlee; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Magdalene (Mel) Hucek, Clem (Alvina) Dhuey, and Florence Dhuey; and a special Godchild Joseph DeGuelle.
Visitation will be held on Thursday July 10, 2014 at Wiesner & Massart Funeral Home, Casco from 4 to 8 p.m. Wake service will take place at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday morning at St. Peter Catholic Church in Lincoln from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. with Fr. Frank Sherry and Deacon Paul Zenefski officiating. Entombment will follow at the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum. Online condolences may be shared here .
